Hospitals and Doctors
All New Zealand cities are supported by major hospitals while rural areas are supported by emergency clinics. Helicopters and road ambulances are used in emergencies. Pharmacies (chemists or drug stores) are widespread in cities and towns. All emergency treatment in New Zealand public hospitals is free, however some medical treatments at hospitals require a small payment. Doctors' charges are in general from NZ$40 - $55 per visit.
Fire Department
The New Zealand Fire Service is made up of full time crews in the main cities and voluntary crews in rural areas.

The water supply in New Zealand is fresh and clean. Tap water is drinkable.
