Film New Zealand welcomes new incentive for domestic screen production
3rd July 2008
“Film New Zealand congratulates the Government on today’s announcement of the five year funding base and criteria for the Screen Production Incentive Fund for New Zealand film and television productions”, said Chairman David Madigan.
“Film New Zealand (Film NZ) along with other industry bodies, wrote in March to Ministers urging the introduction of a domestic incentive to retain our talent base”, he said. “So we are pleased to have supported the introduction of this incentive.”
“As the national film office, Film New Zealand works closely with the industry on domestic projects as well as international ones. We acknowledge that the successful momentum gained by New Zealand’s own unique feature films adds value to Film New Zealand’s marketing efforts internationally. Even more importantly, domestic feature film production – alongside the growing number of domestic television productions screening around the world – contributes to the sustainability and upskilling of our talent pool that, in turn, attracts and gives confidence to international filmmakers considering bringing production to New Zealand.”
“New Zealand’s ability to sustain and grow its domestic production levels is therefore a key consideration for Film New Zealand,” Mr Madigan concluded. “SPIF should provide a significant boost to both production and to the business sustainability of local production companies.”
