A new teaser trailer for Ash vs Evil Dead, a major new US television series being produced in New Zealand, has been released.

Ash vs Evil Dead started production in Auckland in April and is the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead.

The series centers around Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead.  When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal.  Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

The series is being made by US enterainment group STARZ and will be produced by original filmmakers Rob Tapert, Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi (pictured above). Craig DiGregorio will serve as executive producer/showrunner, Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce and Aaron Lam and Moira Grant will serve as producers.

Actor and director Bruce Campbell will also reprise his role as Ash from the original Evil Dead trilogy of movies. New Zealand actress, Lucy Lawless, star of Xena: Warrior Princess and Spartacus also stars in the series.

Ash vs Evil Dead is due for release in the US later on this year.
