Audiences got a tantalising first peek at Disney’s Pete’s Dragon with the release of a teaser trailer today.

A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, Pete’s Dragon is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon.

New Zealand doubles for the American Pacific Northwest in the film which is a reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film.  The trailer features some of the stunning New Zealand filming locations; Tapanui, the small South Island town that was transformed into the logging town Millhaven, the Wellington region, and the towering Redwood forests of the Central North Island. 

Pete’s Dragon stars Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Oakes Fegley (This is Where I Leave You), Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Oona Laurence (Southpaw) and Oscar® winner Robert Redford (Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

WETA Digital utilises the latest in digital effects to bring the dragon, Elliott, to life.

Directed by David Lowery, Pete’s Dragon was based out of Wellington’s Stone Street Studios for a shoot that commenced in February 2015 and took the production to locations around New Zealand.

A poster was also revealed for the film, which will release on August 12 in the U.S. and on September 15 in New Zealand.
