MTV has just released a peek behind-the-scenes at its upcoming series The Shannara Chronicles, featuring New Zealand as the magical backdrop for the small-screen adaptation of author Terry Brooks’ post-apocalyptic fantasy.

Journey Down Under: A Behind-The-Scenes Glimpse Of The Shannara Chronicles

The series will debut in early 2016 and in the clip above viewers are taken on a journey with some of the cast, exploring New Zealand as the location.

“One of the things that The Shannara Chronicles takes advantage of is the slightly alien landscape of New Zealand, and that helps really create the other-worldliness that you need for fantasy worlds,” explains John Rhys-Davies who plays King Eventine.

New Zealand has strong legacy of fantasy storytelling with television series Hercules and Xena, and films like The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Trilogies, and Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian.

The video is a stunning glimpse of the much anticipated MTV series.
