Here’s hoping hard work and talent pays off as New Zealanders nominated for BAFTAs, Oscars and Visual Effects Society awards wait in anticipation.

Expat Anthony McCarten (Death of a Superhero, Show of Hands) is up for a BAFTA and an Oscar for his adapted screenplay The Theory of Everything.

The Weta group of companies teams nominated for Special Visual Effects BAFTAs include Joe Letteri, Eric Saindon, David Clayton and R. Christopher White for The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, and Joe Letteri, Dan Lemmon, Erik Winquist and Daniel Barrett for their work on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The same team are in the running for Oscars in the Visual Effects category for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Brent Burge and Jason Canovas have been given the nod in the Sound Editing category for The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, which has also been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble

To top it off, Weta Digital has nine Visual Effects Society award nominations and will be recognised for its Barbershop hair grooming system at The Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation.

Congratulations to everyone, including Golden Globes nominee Lorde for her song Yellow Flicker Beat.
