Wellington to Host Hobbit World Premiere

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first of two planned Hobbit films by Peter Jackson, produced by Warner Bros. will have it’s worldwide premiere screening in Wellington in November 2012. Sir Peter Jackson announced the news after 5 days of shooting on location at ‘Hobbiton’ in Matamata last Friday.
The unparalleled success of the LOTR: Return of the King Premiere in 2003, helped the decision to hold the premiere in Wellington.
"No one I don't think in the international industry could quite believe how the country got behind that moment," Jackson said, "and I think everyone involved is quite honestly keen to let New Zealand have the premiere of the first Hobbit movie."
The first of the two Hobbit movies will be released to the public on December 13th, 2012, with the second, The Hobbit: There and Back Again set for release in December 2013.
