One day all the women in the world disappear. Without warning and without explanation. In the backstreets of a crumbling city, a lonely man is haunted by desire and fantasy and stumbles across a miracle: a woman who was left behind. She has no interest in him, but he is desperate to hang on to her - by force if necessary.
Tim Balme narrates this film-noir styled film about being left behind in a world without women. Rain creates a grim atmosphere remiscent of Blade Runner, and the tough-talking dialogue sprakles especially after Balme meets the woman and finds his head being turned by desire.
Planet Man was judged best short film in the Critics' Week section of the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
